Well, here we are in Belize!...Praise the Lord!...We are a group of 5 on this trip, building relationships with our Belizian brothers and sisters, and helping to rehab a currently unused building into to church building. Our first faith building moment came when the airline check in lady almost didn't let one of our team board the plane in Boston board because his Passport was difficult to read. She checked with a supervisor and they did let him on.
We were also rewarded with a couple of extra bagels from Dunkin' Donuts because they messed up our order. By the time we discovered the error, we were at our gate, and you know they couldn't give them to anyone else....:)
Other than that, our flights were uneventful, and we arrived in hot, muggy Belize, and were picked up by Nelson Juarez and a couple of other hermanos (brothers) from the church. We got checked into our hotel and took a stroll around the neighborhood, and along the shore of the Caribbean, not very "beachy" where we are, but pretty, none the less.
For dinner we went to Old Belize, a neat place that serves real Belizian foods, and is also a water park of sorts with a huge slide, zip line, and boat & jet ski launch. Dinner was yummy, and we met another Mission team, this one from MD.
Another blessing is that, since we are a small team, one of the hermanos is letting us use his van for transportation, as well as the fact that the hotel is 3 blocks from the building where we will be working, we don't need to rent a van/bus for 10 days. Since funds for this are in the budget, they can now be redirected into materials for the rehab project!
Stay tuned for more ...
